Mollen is a small puzzle platformer made in GB Studio. You can play it online in your browser or on your smartphone. You can download the .pocket file to play it with an Analogue Pocket and you can download the .gb file to play it with a Game Boy emulator.

Mollen was made with the amazing GB Studio software.

I created pixel art using Piskel.

I created level backgrounds using Tiled.

Music was made by Krümel and found in the GB Studio Community Assets.

The people of the GB Studio Discord have aided development by resolving my questions and issues.

"Mollen" is Dutch for "Moles".

Quite a nice game. I really like the world you’ve created and the sprites. The little house the moles live in is especially nice

Thank you for your kind words!

And yeah, they have a cosy little home. :)

Really enjoyed this. Great sense of progression and level design which is rare for a first game. It hooked me within the first two minutes with the introduction and the considered approach to the level mechanic tutorial scenes. Congrats on a great first GB Studio game!

Nice to hear, thx! :)

Nice short game!

I think the game could be played faster if opening chests and unlocking gates could be done simply by touching them instead.

Wow thx!

And thank you for your suggestion. I'll try it out and see how it works out.

I like the press A to open chests and doors. It is more immersive to me than walking up to them as pressing A mirrors opening a chest or turning a handle. From memory, you can set the grid size to 16 pixels instead of 8 in the settings for top down scenes which will assist in maneuvering the player character during play. That way, the mole will line up with the puzzle elements at all times during movement, making the interactions slightly more clear.  A second improvement would be to make sure the puzzle elements (snakes and key chests etc.) Have a black outline around them. That way they stand out more which is beneficial for readability. Really excellent work all the same. Well done!

Thank you very much!

Also good tips concerning the 16px vs. 8px grid movement (hadn't noticed the option!) and concerning the readability. Will keep those in mind.
